Data scope
How an EnaResearch study's measurement types, sources, baseline days, late data window and participation dates decide which data is accepted.
- Admin panel
- Participant app
A study's data scope decides which data EnaResearch accepts for it: the permitted measurement types, the permitted sources, and the time window of each participation. The server checks every record against the scope; the app also uses it to ask only for the permissions the study needs.
Required role
- The PI sets the scope in the study wizard (Data scope step). After approval, scope changes need a change request with owner approval.
Measurement types
Only the selected Permitted measurement types enter the study's data. A study with no measurement type or no source collects nothing; the wizard warns about this. Choose types that are integrated on your participants' platforms; the picker tells you, for example, "Not collected from iOS participants".
Sources
By default sources are Automatic: the system collects the selected measurements from every source that can technically provide them (Apple Health on iPhone, Health Connect on Android). When you change the measurement types, the sources are worked out again.
If your protocol needs device consistency, choose Limit sources and select Collect only from these sources. No data is taken from sources you leave out. Back to automatic sources undoes this.
Time window
A measurement enters the study only if it falls inside a participation's window:
- from the Participation start minus the study's Data before participation (days) (0–30, baseline data),
- until the participation ends or the study ends,
- plus, after closing, the Late data window (0–30 days, default 14) for data from before the end.
Data from before the start date is collected only if the study asks for baseline days. On iPhone, the participant may limit history to 30 days on the permission screen; Health Connect asks separately for data older than 30 days.
One person, several studies
Measurements belong to the person, not to a study. If the same person takes part in two studies, each study sees only the data inside its own participation window and its own permitted measurement types. Nothing is shared between studies.
What is rejected
Records outside the scope, values outside the catalog's accepted range, missing values, unknown categories and times in the future are rejected on arrival. Rejected records never enter the study's data.
