Participant app
What the EnaResearch participant app for iPhone and Android does, what it sends to your research team, what you see in it and how to stop sending data.
- Participant app
The EnaResearch app connects your phone to a research study you have agreed to take part in. It reads the health data your study asks for from Apple Health (iPhone) or Health Connect (Android) and sends it to your research team. You connect it once with the activation card your research team gives you; after that it works in the background.
What you need
- The activation card from your research team (or the codes on it).
- An iPhone with iOS 17 or later, or an Android phone with Android 9 or later. On Android, Health Connect is needed; see Android and Health Connect.
- An internet connection when the app sends data.
The app is in English and Turkish. It is coming soon to the App Store and Google Play; until then, your research team tells you how to install it.
What the app sends
- Only the health data types your study asks for, for example heart rate, steps and sleep. Some studies also ask for nutrition data or sensitive data such as menstrual cycle, fertility tests or sexual activity; your participant information tells you which.
- Data is sent under your participant code. Your name is not sent.
- Data is used only for the study you joined.
- The app reads data only for your participation period. If your study asks for data from before you joined (up to 30 days), the permission screen tells you that past data is read too.
What you see in the app
| Section | What it shows |
|---|---|
| Connection | This device is connected to your study. and your Organisation |
| My studies | Each study's name and description, your study label, status (Taking part, Completed, Withdrawn) and dates |
| Data transfer | Last transfer, records Waiting to be sent and the Send now button |
| Last 7 days | A daily summary, for example steps, average heart rate, sleep and active energy |
The daily summaries show that your data is arriving. They are not the research data itself, and the app does not show individual measurements.
When data is sent
About every hour in the background, when you open the app, and when you tap Send now. If there is no connection, the app keeps the data on your phone and tries again later.
Stop sending data
- To stop sending from this phone, tap Disconnect this device and confirm. You will need a new activation card to reconnect.
- You can also withdraw the app's access to health data at any time in Apple Health or Health Connect.
- To leave the study, contact your research team. Disconnecting the app does not withdraw you from the study by itself.
