Activation cards and participant access
Give EnaResearch participants an activation card: how the participant code, activation key and PIN work, and how to rotate, revoke, unlock and end sessions.
- Admin panel
- Participant area
- Participant app
A participant connects the EnaResearch app with an activation card that the study team prints or hands over. The card carries the organization code, the participant code, a one-time activation key and a QR code. On first use the participant chooses a 6-digit PIN. A code on its own is never enough to sign in.
Required role
- A member of the study team (PI or Co-I), while the participation is active.
Concepts
| Item | What it is |
|---|---|
| Participant code | 6 characters. Belongs to the person and is valid in all their studies. |
| Activation key | One-time key to link a phone (or to activate on the web). Valid for 14 days; shown only when it is created. |
| PIN | 6 digits the participant chooses. Used to sign in to the participant web area. Sequences (123456) and a single repeated digit (111111) are not accepted. Nobody from the research team ever asks for it. |
| Session | A linked phone (Mobile device) or a web sign-in (Web). A phone session stays valid while it is used (90 days from last use); a web session lasts 7 days. |
Give access
Open the study → Participants, then the participant's row menu → Participant access.
Click Grant access (or New activation if the participant already has a code). The Activation card ready panel shows the QR code, the code, the key and Valid until.
Click Print card, or give the code and key to the participant in person. The key is shown only now; it cannot be shown again after you close the window.
The printed card shows your organization's name and logo, the QR code (with your QR logo in the middle, if set), the organization code, the participant code and key, three steps to connect the app, the web alternative and the validity date.
Manage access
The Participant access window shows the code, whether a PIN is Set or Not set, any Pending activation and Open sessions.
- New activation: a new key, for example when the participant changes phone or lost the card.
- Issue a new code: the old code, PIN and all open sessions become invalid; give the participant a new activation.
- Revoke code: all of the participant's sessions are closed and any pending activation becomes invalid.
- End session: closes one session (for example a lost phone).
- Remove lock: after repeated failed attempts the code is locked for about 15 minutes. If you have verified the participant, you can remove the lock.
Every action is written to the audit log. When the participation has ended, no new activation key can be issued.
